Roger, my teacher, delivered my certificates to me today.
When he phoned I was busy getting breakfast. It was noon. I told him I wasn’t dressed. Then I thought to ask, “Where are you?”, thinking he expected my to fetch my certificates from his home.
“I’m downstairs.”
I thought he meant he was waiting in his car in the yard. I was too excited to wait and dress, so I rushed down in my gown, opened the door and:
“AHH!” we both screamed in fright, both shocked out of our wits by each other’s sudden, unexpected reaction. He was standing waiting for me at my front door, like the statue of the Commendatore in Mozart’s Opera, Don Giovanni! If you find a brief synopsis of his opera, my story will better come alive.

I’ve just been revising where I’d left off before my exam. I’m studying the difficult part now: Progressions. I had done very well with progressions in the run up to my exam so Roger hadn’t questioned my understanding of that part of the syllabus. Now I realised all I had done was random guesswork, pure fluke, I hadn’t understood it at all, as my results in question 1 & 2 showed! I failed both questions. The rest of the paper, my composition question, question 3, and the two general knowledge questions, 4 and 5 saved me! I scored 70% overall. I had hoped to have done better, however, everyone agrees it was a very good result, I’m satisfied.
Since the first of August, I’ve felt high and unable to settle down to doing any work again.
